Our Impact in Haiti

Environmental Sustainability

One Million Trees for La Visite National Park (International Program)

NY Friends of Haiti 2010 (NYFOH) is leading the One Million Trees for Haiti initiative to restore forests and protect vital water sources at La Visite National Park—one of Haiti’s most critical ecological zones.

Why it matters:

  • Less than 1.5% of Haiti’s forest cover remains

  • Reforestation protects biodiversity, prevents soil erosion, and secures clean water

  • La Visite safeguards 9 major water springs supplying Port-au-Prince

Our approach:

  • Planting native forest and fruit trees

  • Restoring watersheds and ecosystem resilience

  • Strengthening climate and water security

Rural Women in Agriculture

Empowering Women. Restoring Hope. (International Program)

NY Friends of Haiti 2010 (NYFOH) empowers women in rural Haiti as farmers, environmental stewards, and community leaders—addressing poverty, food insecurity, and environmental degradation together.

Program focus:

  • Micro-credit to launch and grow agricultural activities

  • Training in land preservation, soil management & agroforestry

  • Financial literacy to support long-term economic stability

By investing in women-led agriculture, NYFOH helps restore land, strengthen local food systems, and build sustainable livelihoods—benefiting families and entire communities.

Accessible Water Initiative (International Program)

NY Friends of Haiti 2010 (NYFOH) is working to expand clean water access in Savanne-Entourée, Haiti, where families, students, and farmers still spend hours each day searching for water.

Our focus

  • Build a community water well serving Éco-École d’Amitié and nearby households

  • Provide safe, reliable water for daily needs

  • Improve health, education, and livelihoods

Why it matters

  • Keeps children in school

  • Protects community health
