Conference – Addressing Haiti’s Reforestation Challenges: A Call to Action

NY Friends of Haiti 2010 recently hosted a crucial conference at the Hilton Airport near JFK, bringing together environmentalists and concerned individuals to address the pressing issue of deforestation in Haiti. The conference shed light on the alarming loss of forests in Haiti, highlighting the devastating impact on biodiversity, including the loss of the national bird, the Calson Rouge.

Distinguished panelists, including Agronomist Arcene Bastien, Forestry GIS Specialist Ronal Cadamus, Martine Theodore, Head of Consultant Peacock Group, and others, shared valuable insights into the root causes of deforestation and proposed solutions to combat this urgent environmental crisis. With the participation of key figures such as Senator Dieupie Cherubin Nesmy Manigat, and Minister of Education, the conference underscored the importance of collaboration across sectors to address Haiti’s reforestation challenges.

The conference also served as a platform for the diaspora to pledge their support for Haiti’s farmers, who are on the front lines of this environmental battle. With the urgency of the situation clear, partners from the diaspora committed to providing assistance and resources to help farmers mitigate the impacts of deforestation and build sustainable livelihoods.

As Haiti faces the dire consequences of deforestation, it is imperative that we come together as a global community to take action. By raising awareness, fostering collaboration, and mobilizing support, we can work towards a brighter, greener future for Haiti and its people.

Join us in our mission to combat deforestation and safeguard Haiti’s natural heritage. Together, we can make a difference and ensure a sustainable future for generations to come.
