Empowering Youth: Creating Safe Spaces for Change

In commemoration of International Youth Day, NY Friends of Haiti 2010 hosted its annual Youth Forum on August 16 at the YMCA in Brooklyn, New York. This event brought together youth, leaders, and organizations from across Brooklyn to address pressing issues and foster dialogue on diversity, culture, race, and community inclusion.

Joined by esteemed guests such as Council Member Dr. Mathieu Eugene, Rodneyse Bichotte, district leader of the 42nd district in Brooklyn, and entrepreneur Leanna Archer, alongside other influential speakers, the forum provided a platform for meaningful conversations. Topics ranged from tackling racism and stereotypes to promoting social justice, economic empowerment, and youth engagement.

The support of our community made this forum possible, and we express our gratitude for enabling us to empower young individuals. Through engaging activities, free food, live music entertainment, and informational stalls, attendees had the opportunity to connect, learn, and exchange ideas. Despite the challenges of racism, police brutality, and immigration, the forum emphasized the importance of unity, resilience, and collective action.

As we reflect on the success of this event, we look forward to continuing our mission of empowering youth and creating safe spaces for change. Join us in shaping a brighter future for our communities.

Remember, the hopes of the world rest on young people. Let’s tap into their power and work together for peace, justice, and prosperity.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres
